PROJECT STEPS
1. As a customer service representative for Digby Systems, a home automation company in Nashville, Tennessee, you help to develop customer information about installing and using the company's systems. Your manager, Malik Safar, has started a reference document about setting up a smart home. He has already created some content and asks you to complete the guide.
In the Abstract content control on page 1, replace the "[Abstract]" placeholder with the text A guide to selecting a home automation system to enter the abstract text.
2. Vertically center the contents of the current section to apply an alignment appropriate for the cover page and copyright page.
3. Switch to Outline View, and then promote the text "Index" on page 6 to a Level 1 paragraph so that it appears as a major heading in the document.
4. Still in Outline View, select the text "[Insert subdocument]" on page 4 to prepare for inserting a subdocument. Show the entire document, and then insert Support_WD19_EOM9-1_Malik.docx to incorporate Malik's content. Select the subdocument, and then unlink it so that it becomes a permanent part of the master document. Close Outline View.
5. Compress all pictures in the document to the Web (150 ppi) resolution because Malik plans to provide this document on the company website.
6. Create a link between the "HOW SMART HOMES WORK" text box on page 4 and the blank text box on page 5 so that the text can continue from page to page as necessary.
7. On page 7, add a bookmark named Energy to the "Energy Efficiency of Smart Homes" heading so that Malik can later create a link to this section. Delete the section break at the bottom of the page to include pages 4–9 in the same section.
8. Add Energy savings as a caption below the "Smart Home Tips for Saving Energy" picture using "Figure" as the label and a colon (:) after the figure number to identify the picture. In the paragraph above Figure 4, replace the text "[insert figure cross-reference]" with a cross-reference to Figure 4 that displays only the figure label and number.
9. In the paragraph after Figure 4, replace the text "[insert Wingdings 118 symbol]" with the Wingdings 118 diamond symbol.
10. On page 3, replace the text "[Insert table of contents]" with a Table of Contents using the Automatic Table 2 style in the Table of Contents gallery.
11. On page 4, insert the Accent Bar 1 page number at the top of the page. Break the link to the previous section. Change the page number format so that the page with the "Getting Started" heading is page 1. Set different odd and even pages, and then go to the even page header for Section 3. Break the link to the previous section, and then insert the Accent Bar 2 page number at the top of the page.
12. Go to the odd page header for Section 2, and then delete the header so that no page numbers appear on the first three pages of the document. Close the Header and Footer Tools. Update the page numbers in the table of contents so that they display the correct numbering.
13. On page 9, insert a new blank paragraph after the "Table of Figures" heading, and then insert a table of figures using the default format to list the figures in the document.
14. On page 10, insert a new blank paragraph after the "Index" heading, and then insert an index using the default format.
15. On page 5 (the page that begins with the heading "Getting Started"), mark the text "Internet-connected devices" in the first sentence as an index entry. Hide the index codes and other formatting marks, and then update the index to include the new entry. (Hint: If you are having trouble hiding the index codes, click the File tab and then click Options. In the left pane of the Word Options dialog box, click Display. If the Hidden text check box in the "Always show these formatting marks on the screen" section contains a checkmark, click the box to remove the checkmark, and then click OK.)
