GETTING STARTED

1. Save the file NP_PPT365_CS1-2A_FirstLastName_1.pptx as NP_PPT365_CS1-2A_FirstLastName_2.pptx

a. Edit the file name by changing “1” to “2”.

b. If you do not see the .pptx file extension, do not type it. The file extension will be added for you automatically.

2. To complete this Project, you will also need the following files:

3. With the file NP_PPT365_CS1-2A_FirstLastName_2.pptx open, ensure that your first and last name is displayed in the presenter notes on Slide 1.

a. If the presenter notes do not display your name, delete the file and download a new copy.

PROJECT STEPS

1. As a strategist for Bentall Transportation Consultants, you advise about traffic and transportation issues that affect companies and municipalities. You are working on a presentation called "Traffic Calming Solutions" to advise city councils about ways in which they can reduce traffic congestion. Change the design of the presentation as follows to use the company's standard design for municipal clients:

a. Apply the custom theme from the file Support_PPT365_CS1-2A_Municipal.potx to all the slides in the presentation.

b. Change the theme colors to Green.

2. Insert a footer as follows to identify the name of the company throughout the presentation:

a. Include the slide number in the footer.

b. Enter Bentall Transportation Consultants as the footer text.

c. Display the footer on all slides except the title slide.

3. On Slide 1, enter Traffic Calming Solutions in the title placeholder to provide the title for the presentation.

4. On Slide 2 ("What is Traffic Calming?"), insert and format a picture as follows to illustrate the content on the slide:

a. Use the content placeholder on the left to insert the picture Support_PPT365_CS1-2A_Roundabout.jpg.

b. Add a Green, Accent 1 border (5th column, 1st row in the Theme Colors palette) to separate the picture from the slide background.

c. Change the weight of the picture border to 6 pt.

5. With Slide 2 still displayed, increase the indent of the second, third, and fourth list items in the bulleted list to use a more logical arrangement.

6. Remaining on Slide 2, add and modify animations on the slide as follows to make the content more lively:

a. Remove the animation from the slide title.

b. Animate the content placeholder on the right using the Fly In Entrance animation. [Mac Hint: Fly In Basic animation.]

c. Change the direction of the animation to From Right.

d. Change the Start setting to After Previous so that the animation plays after the slide appears.

7. On Slide 3 ("Types of Traffic Calming"), format the picture as follows to provide more visual interest:

a. Flip the picture horizontally so that the text is readable.

b. Resize the picture to a height of 3".

c. Apply the Compound Frame, Black picture style.

d. Crop the picture to the Oval shape in the Basic Shapes section of the Crop to Shape gallery. [Mac Hint: Oval shape.]

8. With Slide 3 still displayed, add alt text to the picture that reads: Blue sign with white text that states Traffic Calming Ahead. to accurately describe the picture.

9. Remaining on Slide 3, decrease the indent of the list item "Physical Design" to display it as the major topic above the three bulleted items.

10. On Slide 4 ("Health Benefits of Traffic Calming Measures"), modify and format the text to make it more visually appealing:

a. Delete the bullet item "Health benefits" because it repeats the slide title.

b. Bold the text "safety".

c. Change the font size of all five bulleted items to 20 pt.

11. With Slide 4 still displayed, insert a shape as follows to emphasize the importance of traffic calming:

a. Insert an Arrow: Right shape from the Block Arrows section of the shape gallery below the bulleted list. [Mac Hint: Right Arrow shape.]

b. Resize the shape to a height of 2" and a width of 8".

c. Enter the following text in the shape: Traffic Calming Saves Lives!

d. Increase the font size of the text in the shape to 32 pt.

e. Apply the Subtle Effect – Green, Accent 1 shape style.

f. Apply the Shadow: Offset Bottom shape effect from the Outer section of the Shadow gallery.

g. Use Smart Guides to position the shape as shown in Figure 1.

12. On Slide 5 ("Traffic Calming Process"), insert SmartArt as follows to make the four stages in the planning process more memorable:

a. Convert the bulleted list on the left to the Basic Process SmartArt.

b. Apply the Divot shape effect from the Bevel gallery to the entire SmartArt.

c. Use Smart Guides to position the Basic Process SmartArt as shown in Figure 2.

d. Apply the Offset: Bottom shadow text effect from the Outer section of the Shadow gallery to the WordArt text "Community Participation is Key" to emphasize it.

13. Remaining on Slide 5, enter the following slide note as a reminder to emphasize community engagement: Ask the audience to consider how to engage communities in the planning process.

14. On Slide 6 ("Accident Reduction"), change the slide layout to Picture with Caption to create more impact with the slide.

15. On Slide 7 ("Case Studies: Reduced Accidents"), use the Thesaurus to replace the word "heavy" in the first bulleted item with a more descriptive synonym beginning with the letter "s".

16. On Slide 8 ("Effect of Traffic Calming Measures on Speed Reduction"), modify the table as follows to complete the content:

a. Delete the blank row in the table (row 3).

b. Add a column to the right side of the table.

c. In row 1 of the new column, type Speed After as the column heading.

d. Enter 50 in each of the four remaining cells in the new column.

17. Remaining on Slide 8, format the table as follows to improve its appearance:

a. Apply the Light Style 2 – Accent 1 table style.

b. Select a table style option to remove special formatting from the header row.

c. Center the content in columns 2 and 3.

d. Align the table in the center of the slide.

18. Add a slide to the presentation as follows:

a. Insert a new slide 9 using the Title Only layout.

b. Enter Accident Statistics as the slide title.

c. Copy the chart from the presentation Support_PPT365_CS1-2A_Chart.pptx and paste it in the slide using the destination theme.

d. Use Smart Guides to position the chart as shown in Figure 3.

19. On Slide 10 ("Noise Reduction Issues"), fill the burst shape on the right with the picture Support_PPT365_CS1-2A_Noise.jpg to balance the slide.

20. On Slide 11 ("Traffic Calming in Action"), use the content placeholder to insert the video Support_PPT365_CS1-2A_Video.mp4 to illustrate the topic of the slide.

21. Remaining on Slide 11, shorten the video and change its settings to make it easy for viewers to play the video:

a. Trim the video so it ends at 3.000 seconds.

b. Set the video to start playing Automatically and to Rewind after Playing.

22. On Slide 12 ("For More Information"), rotate the picture to the right 90° so that the sign points toward the top of the slide.

23. Remaining on Slide 12, emphasize the company name instead of the email address as follows:

a. Change the font color of the text "Bentall Transportation Consulting" to Green, Accent 1 (5th column, 1st row in the Theme Colors palette).

b. Remove the hyperlink from the email address.

24. Apply the Wipe transition from the Subtle section of the Transitions gallery to all the slides in the presentation.

25. On Slide 1 ("Traffic Calming Solutions"), create a more dramatic transition for the title slide as follows:

a. Apply the Vortex transition from the Exciting section of the Transitions gallery to the title slide only.

b. Play the Applause sound with the transition.

c. Change the Effect Option to From Bottom.

d. Change the Duration to 3.00 seconds.

26. Check the spelling in the presentation to identify and correct any spelling errors.

In Slide Sorter view, your presentation should look like the Final Figure on the following page. Save your changes, close the presentation, and exit PowerPoint. Follow the directions on the website to submit your completed project.
