New Perspectives Word 2019 | Module 3: SAM Project 1b Spree Wireless

Enhancing a report

Laptop and spreadsheet workspace

GETTING STARTED

1. Open the file NP_WD19_3b_FirstLastName_1.docx, available for download from the SAM website.

2. Save the file as NP_WD19_3b_FirstLastName_2.docx by changing the “1” to a “2”.

a. If you do not see the .docx file extension in the Save As dialog box, do not type it. The program will add the file extension for you automatically.

3. With the file NP_WD19_3b_FirstLastName_2.docx still open, ensure that your first and last name is displayed in the footer.

a. If the footer does not display your name, delete the file and download a new copy from the SAM website.

PROJECT STEPS

1. As an associate market analyst at Spree Wireless, a global media and communications company, you are completing the final draft of a report on customer tablet usage, which will help determine whether the company continues to sell tablet devices. Start by using the Navigation pane to format headings and refine the organization of the document as follows:

a. Demote the "Key Areas of Difference" heading so that it uses the Heading 2 style.

b. Promote the "Report Study Group" heading so that it uses the Heading 1 style.

2. In the blank paragraph in the "Tablet Considerations" section on page 2, insert and format an informative diagram as follows:

a. Insert the Basic Process SmartArt from the Process section of the SmartArt gallery.

b. Type Market in the left shape.

c. Type Customers in the middle shape.

d. Type Usage in the right shape.

e. Resize the SmartArt to a height of 2.4" and a width of 5".

3. In the blank paragraph in the "Survey Results" section on page 3, show the number of minutes customers use tablets by inserting a table with 4 columns and 2 rows, and then entering the data shown in Table 1.

Table 1: Data for the New Table

2018 | 2019 | 2020 | 2021 105 | 87 | 81 | 79

4. Format the new table as follows to suit the design of the document:

a. Apply the List Table 3—Accent 6 table style.

b. Remove the First Column table style option.

5. Make the following changes to the "Seniors using tablets" table so the data is easier to interpret:

a. Sort the table in descending order by the "Tablet (%)" column.

b. In the blank cell of the table, insert a formula that sums the values above using the 0% number format.

c. Resize column C (the "Tablet (%)" column) to its best fit.

6. The "All adult customers owning tablets" table needs to be updated because it includes a repeated row and is missing data. Modify the table as follows:

a. Delete row 5, which contains the text "Men" and "33" and repeats the data in row 3.

b. Insert a row at the end of the table.

c. Type 65+ in the first cell of the new row.

d. Type 32 in the second cell of the new row.

7. Format the "All adult customers owning tablets" table as follows to suit the design of the document:

a. Apply the List Table 3—Accent 6 table style to the table.

b. Remove the First Column table style option.

c. Merge the cells in the "Gender" row.

d. Apply Align Top Center to only the data in the Percentage column (cells B2, B3, B5, B6, B7, and B8).

e. Format the table to AutoFit Window.

8. After the heading "Report Study Group" on page 4, format the list of job titles and employee names as follows to make them easier to read:

a. On each line, beginning "Market Analyst Hugh Cunningham" and ending "Executive Assistant Zack Kealy", set a 3.25" left tab stop with option 2 (dotted) leaders.

b. Press TAB to replace the space between the job title and the employee name so that the names are aligned with the new tab stop.

9. Insert the Slice 1 header, and then close the Header & Footer Tools.

10. Insert a cover page as follows:

a. Insert the cover page using the Slice (Dark) style.

b. Replace the Document Title placeholder with the following text: Spree Wireless

c. Replace the Document Subtitle placeholder with the following text: Tablet Customer Report

Your document should look like the Final Figure on the following pages. Save your changes, close the document, and then exit Word. Follow the directions on the SAM website to submit your completed project.
