PROJECT STEPS
1. As the visitor experience liaison for the Palmer Cove Visitor Center on the shores of Lake Superior in Wisconsin, you are helping Gloria Perenzky, the director of the center, to create a report summarizing tourism activities during the summer season. The report will be presented to the municipal town council and includes recommendations for the following season. Gloria has reviewed a draft of the report using tracked changes. You will add her comments and revisions to your copy of the report and then complete it. Combine documents as follows to incorporate Gloria's revisions and comments into your copy of the report:
a. Combine your document (the original document) with the file Support_WD365_7a_Gloria.docx. [Mac Hint: If prompted, select the file to grant access.]
b. Select all the Comparison settings and show changes in the original document at Word level.
2. Turn on Track Changes and display All Markup for review. Accept and reject tracked changes in the document as follows:
a. Accept the change in the first body paragraph because the change improves the paragraph.
b. In the second body paragraph, reject the change to the text "Visitor Center" so that the bold formatting is removed.
c. Accept the remaining changes in the document, which are also improvements.
3. On page 2, with Tracked Changes on, apply the Heading 1 style to the heading "Operations" because this heading begins a new major topic.
4. Turn off Track Changes. Insert a hyperlink as follows to make it easy for readers to access an external document:
a. In the sentence "Here is a list of Frequently Asked Questions…" under the "Visitor Statistics and Activities" heading, format the words "Frequently Asked Questions" as a hyperlink that targets the document Support_WD365_7a_Faqs.docx.
b. Add a ScreenTip with the following text: Click to open a list of questions most frequently asked by visitors.
5. Read the first comment in the document, and then respond to Gloria's request as follows:
a. Replace the text [Pie Chart] following the paragraph on page 3 below the heading "Visitor Statistics and Activities" with a pie chart.
b. Type the chart data as shown in Table 1.
c. Change the chart colors to Colorful Palette 2.
Table 1: Pie Chart Data
| Visitors Local Residents | 2150 State Residents | 1414 Other US States | 1132 Canada | 920 Mexico | 480 South & Central America | 170 Europe | 125 Other | 68
6. Read the second comment in the document, and then respond to Gloria's request as follows:
a. Open the workbook Support_WD365_7a_Visitors.xlsx.
b. In the Traffic worksheet, copy the column chart.
c. Return to the report document, move the insertion point to where Gloria instructs you to insert the column chart, and delete the text as directed (but leave a blank line).
d. Link the chart to the document using the destination theme to keep the chart data the same in both locations while using the report document's theme.
e. Close Support_WD365_7a_Visitors.xlsx.
7. Modify the linked chart as follows to suit the design of the Word document and to update data:
a. In the report document, add Highest Traffic Days as the chart title using the Above Chart position.
b. Change the chart style to Style 3 to display values on each segment of the columns.
8. Read the next comment in the document, and then continue editing as follows:
a. Open the workbook Support_WD365_7a_Information.xlsx.
b. In the Information worksheet, copy cells A1:F5.
c. Return to the report document, move the insertion point to where Gloria instructs you to insert the data about competitors, and delete the text as directed (but leave a blank line).
d. Paste the worksheet selection in the Word document using the Keep Source Formatting paste option so that it retains the layout of the original worksheet. The source data is unlikely to change, so you do not need to link it to the source file.
e. Close Support_WD365_7a_Information.xlsx.
9. Delete all the comments in the document because they are no longer needed and accept any remaining changes.
10. On the last page in the document, insert a bookmark to the "Recommendations" heading using Recommendations as the bookmark name.
11. At the end of the first sentence on page 2 of the document, format the word "Recommendations" as a hyperlink to the "Recommendations" bookmark.
Your document should look like the Final Figure on the following pages. Save your changes, close the document, and then exit Word. Follow the directions on the website to submit your completed project.
