GETTING STARTED
1. Save the file SC_PPT365_6B_FirstLastName_1.pptx as SC_PPT365_6B_FirstLastName_2.pptx
a. Edit the file name by changing “1” to “2”.
b. If you do not see the .pptx file extension, do not type it. The file extension will be added for you automatically.
2. To complete this Project, you will also need the following files:
Support_PPT365_6B_Books.jpg
Support_PPT365_6B_PieChart.xlsx
3. With the file SC_PPT365_6B_FirstLastName_2.pptx open, ensure that your first and last name is displayed in the presenter notes on Slide 1.
a. If the presenter notes do not display your name, delete the file and download a new copy.
PROJECT STEPS
1. As a librarian at the Pacific Crest Public Library near Seattle, Washington, you are in charge of compiling data about the library's services and usage over the past year. You have created a presentation of the data for delivery at the next meeting of the library's Board of Directors, and need to make a few more edits. Begin by viewing the presentation in Outline view, and then navigate to Slide 2 ("Our Patrons") and work in Outline view as follows:
a. Add Under before "5 Years" in the first bullet item.
b. Move Slide 12 ("Library Services") above Slide 11 ("Pacific Crest Public Library"). Return to Normal View.
2. On Slide 3 ("General Summary"), format the table to match the other tables in the presentation:
a. Clear all the formatting from the table.
b. Change the shading color to Turquoise, Accent 1, Lighter 80% (5th column, 2nd row in the Theme Colors gallery).
3. With Slide 3 ("General Summary") still displaying, enhance the outside border of the table as follows:
a. Select the third line style (a dotted line) in the selection of border line styles.
b. Select 3 point for the border weight.
c. Select Turquoise, Accent 1, Darker 50% (5th column, 6th row in the Theme Colors gallery) for the pen color.
d. Reapply the outside border to view the enhancements.
4. With Slide 3 ("General Summary") still displaying, enhance the inside border of the table:
a. Select 1 pt for the border weight.
b. Select Turquoise, Accent 1 (5th column, 1st row in the Theme Colors palette) for the pen color.
c. Reapply the inside borders to view the enhancements.
d. Apply the Offset: Top Left shadow effect to the table.
5. On Slide 4 ("Total Collection"), insert a linked pie chart as follows:
a. Open the file Support_PPT365_6B_PieChart.xlsx in Excel.
b. Copy the pie chart.
c. Paste the pie chart as a linked object on the slide using the Use Destination Theme and Link Data paste option.
6. On Slide 5 ("Borrowing Data"), enhance the table as follows:
a. Split the second cell in Row 1 so that it becomes two cells.
b. Type Apr-Jun in the new cell (now the first cell in Column 3) and if necessary use the Format Painter to modify the font size and style so it matches the text in all the other cells.
c. Slightly adjust the width of Column 3 so the left edge lines up with the left edge of the other three cells in Column 3.
d. Resize the table proportionally so that its right edge extends to 6 on the Ruler bar.
7. With Slide 5 ("Borrowing Data") still displaying, modify column widths and row heights:
a. Change the width of the column containing "Movies and Entertainment" to 4.2" so the text fits on one line.
b. Change the width of the remaining four columns to 1.9".
c. Change the height of all four rows in the table to 1".
8. On Slide 6 ("Audiobook Categories"), enhance the table:
a. Apply the Convex Bevel effect to all the table cells.
b. Right-align the data in column 2 of the table.
c. Change the color of the shading applied to the entire table to Turquoise, Accent 1, Lighter 80% (column 5, row 2 in the Theme Colors gallery).
d. Change the font color to Black, Text 1 (2nd column, 1st row in the Theme Colors palette).
9. With Slide 6 ("Audiobook Categories") still displaying, further enhance the table:
a. Merge the two table cells in Row 1 of the table to make one cell.
b. Change the height of Row 1 to exactly 2.1".
c. Fill the merged row with the picture file Support_PPT365_6B_Books.jpg.
d. Change the width of the entire table to 8".
10. On Slide 7 ("Total Items Borrowed By Category"), modify the bar chart as follows:
a. Change the chart type to Clustered Column.
b. Add a Primary Vertical axis title to the chart with the text # of Items Borrowed.
c. Format the Primary Vertical axis title in Bold and 20 point.
d. If necessary, use the mouse to move the Primary Vertical axis title to the left slightly so it doesn't cover any of the labels.
e. Add Primary Major Vertical gridlines to the chart.
11. On Slide 9 ("Library Usage"), modify the pie chart as follows:
a. Change the colors of the pie chart to Monochromatic Palette 1.
b. Edit the chart data by changing the value for 12-17 Years to 57,000.
c. Explode the pie chart slice (second from the top) representing "5-11 Years" to 25%.
d. Change the chart layout to Layout 6 for the entire chart.
e. Change the position of the data labels to Outside End.
f. Increase the font size of the data labels to 16 point.
g. Edit the chart title to Breakdown of Age Ranges
h. Resize the pie chart to a width of 8" and a height of 4.2".
12. On Slide 10 ("Monthly Computer Station Usage"), enhance the table:
a. Change the direction of the data in Row 1 of the table to Rotate All Text 270 degrees.
b. Distribute rows 2 to 5 so that each row is the same height.
c. Apply the Tight Reflection: Touching effect in the Outer section to the table.
d. Resize the table width to 8.5".
In Slide Sorter view, your presentation should look like the Final Figure on the following page. Save your changes, close the presentation, and exit PowerPoint. Follow the directions on the website to submit your completed project.
